Several coaches of Dinajpur-bound Dolonchapa Express derailed after colliding with a truck in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur on Wednesday, halting rail service.
Train driver Abdur Rashid sustained severe injuries in the incident.
Railway security official Abdullah Al Mokarram admitted that the Joshai Mor railgate was open when the sand-laden truck broke down on the tracks around 4:10am.
The train crashed into the truck and four coaches veered off the tracks. One of the guard-brakes of the train’s engine also overturned.
