15 injured as Jubo Dal, police clash in Brahmanbaria

Three journalists were among the injured

At least 15 people, including three journalists, have been injured in a clash between Jubo Dal men and police personnel in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.

The clash took place after local leaders and activists of Jubo Dal brought out a procession at Anantapur around 10am on Monday.

On Monday morning, around 1,000 supporters—led by Upazila Jubo Dal Convener, Masudul Haque Bhuiyan—brought out a procession after the new convening committee of Kasba upazila and Municipality Jubo Dal was approved.

Police stopped the procession shortly after it went some distance from Adra Anantapur Government Primary School and a clash broke out.

At that time, the leaders and activists of Jubo Dal threw brickbats at the police.

At that time many were injured including Piyush Kanti Acharya, head of eastern bureau of ATN News; Jewel-Ur-Rahman, a photojournalist of Somoy TV; and Harunur Rashid, a local correspondent of Mohona TV.

Masudul said: "As a new committee has been formed and so we brought out a celebratory procession. Police stopped and attacked our peaceful procession, injuring our leaders and activists."

Kasba Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Bhuiyan said Jubo Dal members brought out a procession without permission. "Police later dispersed them."

Meanwhile, police detrained Shirajul Haque Emu, joint convener of Upazila Chhatra Dal, from the spot, the OC said.
