A madrasa teacher has been arrested in Barisal for reportedly sexually, physically and mentally abusing an eight-year-old boy.
Airport police station OC Kamalesh Chandra Haldar on Monday said the accused was sent to jail after he was arrested and produced before a court on Sunday.
He identified the man as Jobayer Ahmed, 22, a teacher of the Hefoz department at Jameul Ulum Madrasah situated in Dharmadi area of sadar upazila.
The OC said the father of the child, a student of the madrasah's Hefoz department, filed a case against Jobayer on Sunday.
According to the boy's family, Jobayer violated the child in the madrasah dormitory on the night of August 25. At the time, the teacher had threatened to kill the boy if he screamed.
Jobayer also made inappropriate advances towards him on different occasions earlier. Jobayed physically tortured him whenever he tried to resist the teacher's advances, according to the child and his family.
After learning about the abuse on Saturday, the boy's family members went to the madrasah on Sunday and detained Jobayer. Later, they handed him over to the police.
The boy, with multiple injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal city.
Paediatric surgery department's Dr AKM Mizanur Rahman said there were different types of wounds, including defensive ones, on various parts of the child's body. "There are bite marks on both sides of the child’s body, buttocks and hands, which are indicative of forced sexual activities."
“The child is also suffering from severe psychological trauma. They will take much longer to heal than the physical wounds,” he added.
