A mentally disturbed woman allegedly drowned her four-month-old baby in a roadside ditch in Kushtia.
The mother has been arrested over the incident reported on Wednesday from the district’s Bheramara upazila, police said on Thursday.
Quoting locals, UNB reported that the mother, Akhi Khatun had on a number of occasions tried to kill her baby, which is why the infant was being taken care of by his grandmother.
On Wednesday, she brought the baby home before later throwing it in a ditch near her home. Locals reported to the police after spotting the body, according to the UNB report.
“Akhi has confessed to the crime,” Inspector Shafiq of the local Daulatpur Police Station told the news agency.
