Police in Khulna have arrested two activists of banned militant group Ansar al-Islam with explosives and bomb-making equipment.
The CID’s counter terror unit made the arrests on Monday during a raid at the city’s Sonadanga area, said Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Tapas Karmakar.
The suspected militants have been identified as Nasim and Hasan.
According to ASP Karmakar, the suspects said during initial interrogation that they belonged to the outfit’s “military wing” and were responsible for making bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The suspects were involved in recruiting activists and raising donations as well as were conspiring to carry out attacks on law-enforcers and government establishments, said investigators.
