A fire broke out at a readymade garment factory and reportedly gutted its machinery and other valuables in Gazipur on Monday morning.
Witnesses said factory workers initially tried to put out the fire on their own after it broke out at around 6am at the Alema Textiles Ltd on Bashan Sarak in Vogra.
Abdul Hamid Miya, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said seven firefighting units from Gazipur and Tongi brought the fire under control around 8am.
Machinery and other valuables inside the one-storey building were gutted in the fire before the fire was brought under control, officials said.
However, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
