A Comilla City Corporation councillor has received flak after she administered Covid-19 vaccines to over a hundred people despite not being authorized to do so.

Nadia Nasrin, a councillor for wards 5 and 6 under the reserved seats for women, pushed the first dose of the Moderna vaccines at her office on August 9.

The photos of her administering the jabs soon went viral on social media.

Nasrin admitted to the matter, saying: “I have training and certificate in administering vaccines.”

Comilla Civil Surgeon Mir Mobarak Hossain said she "cannot under any circumstances” administer shots, and that measures would be taken against her after an inquiry.

A three-member probe body was formed on Friday by local health officials to investigate the matter. The committee has been instructed to submit their findings within Saturday.

The committee is headed by Hasan Mahmud, medical officer at the Civil Surgeon's Office, Comilla.

The other two members of the probe body are, Abu Taher, EPI superintendent at the Comilla Civil Surgeon's Office, and Dr Chandrana Rani Debnath, medical officer at the Comilla City Corporation.

According to locals, ruling Awami League activists went to the Harun Government Primary School vaccine centre and pushed around to illegally vaccinate their people.

The general people waiting in line got angry and a clash broke out, after which city authorities deployed police and closed down the centre.

Following the incident, Nasrin took some vials of the vaccines and went to her offices where she administered vaccines.
