Covid-19: Barisal division logs 14 new deaths in 24 hours

The deadly virus has so far claimed 585 lives in the division

Barisal division logged 14 more Covid-19-related deaths and 473 new cases in the past 24 hours till Friday morning.

In the past 24 hours, one passed away due to covid-19 at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH). Meanwhile, eight others passed away from different parts of the district.

Of the nine confirmed Covid-19 patients who died in the past 24 hours, two were from Barisal district, three from Patuakhali, two from Bhola, and one each from Pirojpur and Barguna.

With the latest tallies, the division’s death toll now stands at 585 and the total caseload at 40,592.

At least 453 people were reported to have made full recovery from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the division to 23,282, said Dr Basudeb Kumar Das, divisional director of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Barisal, on Friday.

SBMCH sources said five patients with symptoms have passed away in the hospital’s isolation ward and one confirmed patient in the corona ward.

So far said 888 patients with symptoms have passed away in the hospital’s isolation ward and 358 confirmed patients in the corona ward.

Of the 884 patients who passed away with symptoms, the reports of 50 patients have not been found.

In the past 24 hours till Friday morning, 17 new patients have been admitted in the hospital’s Covid isolation ward and two others in Covid ward. 

With the latest addition, 198 Covid patients are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. Of them, 57 are in the corona ward and 137 others are in the isolation ward.

At the rt-PCR lab of SBMCH, 196 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, where 28% samples tested positive for Covid-19.
