Covid cases climb to 90,501 with 504 new cases in Rajshahi division

Single-day cases fall from the previous day in the northern division

A total of 504 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts in the division on Wednesday, taking the caseload to 90,501 since the pandemic began.

With six more Covid-19 related fatalities, reported on the same day, the death toll reached 1,449 in the division including 609 in Bogra, 262 in Rajshahi with 155 in its city and 145 in Chapainawabganj, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

The new daily infection figure shows a falling trend compared to the previous day’s figure of 598.

Among the infected people, 67,441 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 456 new recoveries reported on the day.

A total of 13,622 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 20,771 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 14,381 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 462 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 529 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Of the total positive cases, the highest 120 were detected in Sirajganj, followed by 111 in Rajshahi, including 95 in its city, 104 in Natore, 70 in Bogra, 50 in Pabna, 21 each in Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat and seven in Naogaon districts.

With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 25,963 in Rajshahi, including 23,619 in its city, 5,299 in Chapainawabganj, 6,153 in Naogaon, 7,540 in Natore, 4,338 in Joypurhat, 20,049 in Bogra, 10,055 in Sirajganj and 11,104 in Pabna.

A total of 1,05,605 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 94,475 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.
