An assistant sub-inspector of Rajshahi police Metropolitan Police (RMP) has been withdrawn and attached to the district police lines on charges of sexual harassment.
RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique signed off ASI Shamim’s withdrawal on Monday, Additional Deputy Commissioner Golam Ruhul Quddus confirmed the matter.
He said further action would be taken after investigating the allegations against ASI Shamim.
According to the allegations, a woman from ward No 25 of the city called the police emergency service number 999 to inform the law enforcers of her husband’s abuse.
Later, ASI Shamim of Bospara police outpost summoned the woman to his office to investigate the incident
On Sunday, the woman went to the outpost with her mother. At that time, ASI Shamim told the woman's mother to go out of the room and sexually harassed the woman when she was alone.
In the evening, the woman's father lodged a written complaint with Boalia police station.
Later, Ward Councillor Arman Ali called the girl's family and ASI Shamim to settle the matter. However, the victim's father went to the RMP commissioner without complying with the settlement.
The police commissioner then withdrew the accused.
Boalia police station Officer in-Charge (OC) Nibaran Chandra Barman said: “After the complaint was lodged, I gave a note to the senior officers about the incident.”
The senior officials would take their next step after investigation, he added.
