A woman has succumbed to death after she was raped and set on fire by her former in-laws on Saturday at Raipura upazila in Narsingdi.

Parveen Akhter, 27, died in the early hours of Monday while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS), with 75-80% burns.

The victim's brother confirmed her death.

According to police and relatives of the victim, she had been married to an expatriate named Zakir Hossain from Morjal area. The couple has a 10-year-old daughter.

Since Zakir lived abroad, she had recurring conflicts with his family and was repeatedly subjected to torture by them.

Last year, Zakir's brother Ali Hossain even stabbed Parveen on her leg at one point, following which Parveen filed a case.
