A suspected robber has been killed in a “gunfight” with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chittagong.
The shootout took place on bridge No 4 of the Fauzdarhat-Bayezid Link Road late Friday night, according to the force.
RAB claimed that the deceased, identified as Md Kajal, 45, was involved in the murder of the driver of cattle carrying truck before Eid-ul-Azha last month.
RAB 7 media officer Md Nurul Afsar said: “Acting on a tip-off, we raided the Fauzdarhat-Bayezid Link Road area on Friday night. We had information that a group of robbers was preparing for a robbery.”

“Seeing our team, the robbers started shooting at us. But the gang fled the scene when we returned fire,” he said.
After the shootout, Kajal was found dead at the spot. His identity was confirmed with the help of the locals, according to the RAB officer.
RAB said it found three firearms, 17 bullets, and three sharp weapons from the scene of the shootout.
Truck driver Abdur Rahman, 35, was shot dead by a group of robbers on July 16 for not stopping his truck, which was carrying sacrificial animals for Eid-ul-Azha.
“Kajal and this group were involved in Abdur Rahman’s murder. They rob vehicles on different Chittagong roads. Kajal also had multiples cases against him,” added RAB officer Afsar.
