The death toll in Rangpur division continues to rise due to Covid-19 outbreak with the hospitals struggling to accommodate new patients.
However, the rate of infection has decreased slightly. In the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning, 14 people died in the six districts of the division.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,357 collected samples were tested, and of them, 557 were Covid positive. In the last 35 days, some 529 people died. Of them, 34 were women.
In the last 24 hours, the district-wise break-up of the total number of Covid infected patients stands at 169 in Rangpur, 59 in Panchagarh, 62 in Nilphamari, 26 in Lalmonirhat, 83 in Kurigram, 59 in Thakurgaon, 55 in Dinajpur and 44 in Gaibandha.
Of the fatalities, four died in Rangpur, three each in Thakurgaon and Dinajpur, and two each in Nilphamari and Kurigram districts.
Meanwhile, all the ICU beds of the two hospitals in Rangpur treating Covid patients are occupied, according to the Rangpur Divisional Health Department.
The total number of deceased in the division now stands at 983 with an average test positivity rate of 32.07%.
So far 2,22,282 samples have been tested in the division; among them 46,486 were tested positive. Some 35,972 patients already recovered and went home.
