The World Bank is providing Bangladesh with $590 million as financial support to address the needs of the displaced Rohingya people until they are safely repatriated to Myanmar.
The initiative, aimed at minimizing the impact on the host communities, is a part of World Bank’s Refugee Policy Review Framework.
The Refugee Policy Review Framework’s goal is evaluating the effectiveness of the multilateral donor's support to refugee-hosting countries across the world, said Mercy Tembon, World Bank country director for Bangladesh and Bhutan.

She further said the program was also designed to strengthen relevant policies and institutions to best manage the situation.
The World Bank launched the program in Bangladesh as a part of the framework through the Economic Relations Division.
Bangladesh is currently hosting more than 1.1 million Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char. Most of them crossed over to Bangladesh from Myanmar to flee a military crackdown in Rakhine state in 2017.
