Prof Dr Sarker Sujit Kumar, chairman of Bangla department at Rajshahi University, has alleged that he was threatened by the supporters of Shafiqul Islam Shimul, an Awami League MP from Natore-2 constituency.
On July 29, Prof Sujit filed a general diary (GD) with Boalia police in Rajshahi against Shafiqul, who is also the general secretary of the district unit Awami League, demanding his and his family’s safety.
According to the GD, Prof Sujit wrote a book in 2009 on history, heritage and the Liberation War of Natore district and made a list of the war criminals of the district by collecting information from the local people.

MP Shafiqul’s father was listed as a war criminal in that book.
Prof Sujit also said that MP Shafiqul’s men threatened him using rough language at a press conference on July 26, and that was published in a section of the media.
SI Nadim Uddin of Boalia police said that they would investigate the allegation and take action accordingly.
