Awami League activist hacked to death in Khulna

The killing takes place ahead of a Union Parishad election

An activist of the ruling Awami League has been hacked to death in Khulna’s Dighalia upazila.

The deceased was identified as Yasin Sheikh, who was campaigning for Farhana Halima, the party’s candidate in the upcoming Senhati Union Parishad election.

Yasin’s family has claimed that he was killed in an attack early Monday by rivals centring the election.

According to locals, he was attacked by unidentified assailants around 3am. Later, they rushed him to the Dighalia Upazila Health Complex where the doctor declared him dead.

Dighalia police said they are conducting raids to arrest the killers.

Police also sent Yasin’s body to the morgue of Khulna Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
