Road accidents leave three dead in Kushtia

All three were riding motorcycles, which got hit by other vehicles

Three people were killed in separate road accidents in the Kushtia district on Wednesday morning and Tuesday night.

Two motorcyclists were killed in a collision between a truck and their motorbike on Kushtia-Jhenaidah Highway near Madhupur Haat on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Satkhira Government College Associate Professor Shafiul Azam, 48, and Enamul Islam, 52.

Kushtia highway police Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Khaleq said Enamul was killed on the spot after a rod-laden truck coming from the opposite direction hit their motorcycle around 7am.

Later, locals had rushed the critically injured Shafiul to Kushtia General Hospital but he passed away.

Meanwhile, a sand trader was killed when an unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle on Mashud Rumi Bridge in Kumarkhali upazila on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Nasir Uddin Biswas, 55.

Kumarkhali police OC Kamruzzaman Talukder said highway police had rushed him to Kushtia General Hospital but the duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.

All three bodies were later sent to the hospital’s morgue.
