A leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, was stabbed to death in Gaibandha.
The incident occurred at the district’s Fulchhari upazila at around 10pm on Sunday.
The deceased, H M Ashiqur Rahman Rocky, general secretary of Fulchhari upazila Chhatra League, was on his way home, reports Bangla Tribune.
Confirming the matter, Gaibandha Superintendent of Police (SP) Touhidul Islam said that Ashiqur was going home from Gaibandha city on his motorcycle.
"A group of miscreants stopped his motorcycle when he reached the Halim Biri Factory area.
“They at one point stabbed him indiscriminately and fled. This left him critically injured," the SP added.
Later, locals rescued Ashiqur and took him to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
“This murder is an outcome of an old dispute. No arrests have been made yet. We are investigating the matter. A case will be soon filed by the family of the deceased,” said SP Touhidul Islam.
