Covid 19: Death toll hits 1,053 with 66,714 infections in Rajshahi division

So far a total of 91,338 people have been kept under quarantine and of them 81,115 have been released

A total of 1,153 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division on Saturday, taking the caseload to 66,714.

With 23 more fatalities from the disease reported on the day, the death toll reached 1,053, including 465 in Bogura, 191 in Rajshahi with 103 in its city and 122 in Chapainawabganj, said Dr. Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

 The new daily infection figure shows a significant escalating trend compared to the previous day's figure of 620, the health department sources said.

 Among the infected people, 45,738 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 835 new recoveries reported during the time.

 A total of 8,360 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have been brought under necessary treatment while 15,190 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 10,172 have been released.

 On the other hand, 722 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 610 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Of the total afresh positive cases, the highest 284 were detected in Rajshahi, including 224 in its city, followed by 244 in Sirajganj, 213 in Pabna, 183 in Bogura, 136 in Natore, 37 in Joypurhat, 36 in Naogaon and 20 in Chapainawabganj districts.

With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 20,058 in Rajshahi, including 16,102 in its city, 4,503 in Chapainawabganj, 5,162 in Naogaon, 5,029 in Natore, 3,829 in Joypurhat, 15,707 in Bogura, 5,666 in Sirajganj and 6,760 in Pabna.

 A total of 91,338 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

 Of them, 81,115 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

 Meanwhile, the surge of Covid-19 cases has been continuing in all eight districts of the division since the very beginning of the second wave making the division a hotspot of the deadly virus.
