Doctors struggling to keep the crumbling health infrastructure of the facility afloat, say officials

Update : 09 Jul 2021, 03:21 PM

With the recent surge in Covid-19 cases overwhelming the health infrastructure in Barisal division, the local authorities have imposed a ban on the admission of general patients to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

“As Covid-19 cases are surging in the municipal area, general patients with medical issues treatable at district and upazila health complexes have been prohibited from coming to SBMCH,” Divisional Health Office Director Basudeb Kumar Das said on Thursday.

Doctors at the hospital are struggling to keep the crumbling health infrastructure of the medical facility afloat, with a daily footfall of around 2,000 patients, according to officials.

“The decision has been taken to lessen the pressure on the hospital doctors," said Basudeb.

Letters have been sent to all the district civil surgeons, district and upazila hospitals, and upazila family planning officials in this regard, he added.
