Despite the movement restriction, except for vehicles delivering cargo, patients, and the deceased, ferries were seen transporting private cars and passengers alongside cargo trucks on the Paturia-Daulatdia route during the ongoing strict lockdown.

Confirming the matter, Zillur Rahman, acting deputy general manager of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office, said around 7-8 ferries were plying on the Paturia-Daulatdia route on Wednesday, the seventh day of the ongoing lockdown.

“In the last 24 hours, as many as 3,800 vehicles including private cars and motorcycles alongside freight trucks and ambulances have crossed the Padma River till Wednesday afternoon,” he added.

The official’s statement reflected the actual scenario observed at the Paturia-Daulatdia ferry terminal in Manikganj on Wednesday, reports this correspondent.

Meanwhile, police and executive magistrates were also seen on the ground at various points of the Dhaka-Aricha highway enforcing lockdown measures.
