Covid-19: 11 more dead in 3 Khulna hospitals in 24 hours

Khulna University’s rt-PCR lab tested 91 samples, found 66 positive

Eleven more people have died due to Covid-19 in three Khulna hospitals in the last 24 hours, according to hospital sources. 

The deaths were reported between Thursday and Friday mornings, at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), 250-bed Khulna General Hospital, and Gazi Medical College Hospital. 

KMCH Covid unit spokesperson Dr Suhas Ranjan Halder confirmed eight deaths in the 24 hours to 8am Friday, seven of whom had tested positive for the disease. 

Meanwhile, Khulna General reported two deaths, and Gazi Medical reported one during the same period. 

KMCH spokesperson Dr Halder further said 33 new patients were admitted in the hospital’s Covid unit. 

The hospital currently has 204 patients undergoing treatment at the Covid unit - 110 in Red Zone, 54 in Yellow Zone, 20 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 20 in High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Meanwhile, 27 patients were released from the hospital. 

Dr Kazi Abu Rashed, spokesperson for the Covid unit of Khulna General Hospital, said six people had been admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, and eight were discharged after recovery.

Sixty-six people are currently undergoing treatment at Khulna General’s Covid unit. 

Dr Gazi Mizanur Rahman, director of Gazi Medical College Hospital, 109 people are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. Of them, nine are in the ICU and 10 in the HDU.

The hospital released 16 patients after recovery from Covid in the 24 hours to 9am Friday, while 35 new patients were admitted. 

In the same time period, 66 samples out of 91 tested in the rt-PCR laboratory of Khulna University tested positive, with a positivity rate of 72.53%. 

On Thursday, health authorities recorded the highest single-day death toll of 35 in Khulna division.
