Gazipur Covid testing facility out of commission for 3 days

Covid samples from the district are now being sent to Dhaka

The Covid testing facility at Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital has remained out of commission for three days since one of the machines broke down.

Over a span of 24 hours, some 188 samples can be tested in the lab every day. As samples are being sent to Dhaka, patients are receiving their test report after more than two days.

The hospital authorities say the laminar flow machine in the bio septic cabinet of the Covid-19 PCR lab has been out of order since Monday.

Dr Saiful Islam, head of microbiology department, told reporters that the laminar flow machine in the bioseptic cabinet had been having problems for several days. 

The matter has also been reported to the office of the director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Gazipur Civil Surgeon Khairuzzaman says around 400 samples are collected in Gazipur every day.

These samples are tested at Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital. If necessary, the samples are also sent to the IPH Lab in Dhaka and the Biotechnology Lab in Savar.
