Authorities recorded 10 more Covid-19-related deaths in Chittagong in the 24 hours between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, taking the district’s total death toll to 701.
During the same period, 1,364 samples were tested in nine laboratories and 399 of them came back positive, said the district’s Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi.
Of the total infected people, 284 were from Chittagong city and the rest 115 from different upazilas of the district. The infection rate is high in Fatikchchari upazila.
So far, the district has recorded 58,724 Covid-19 cases.
Earlier, authorities had put Fatikchchari upazila under an eight-day lockdown from June 23 due to the worsening situation there.
