As many 1,202 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all 10 districts of the Khulna division in the 24 hours to Sunday morning, taking the total caseload to 52,167.
With 28 more fatalities from the disease were reported afresh on the day, the death toll reached 98, said Dr Rasheda Sultana, divisional director of health directorate.
Of the new fatalities, five each are from Khulna and Bagerhat districts, four each from Jessore, Narail and Khustia, and two each from Jhenaidah, Chuadanga and Meherpur.
Twelve of the deceased were admitted in Khulna Medical College Hospital and three others were admitted in Gazi Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, 236 patients tested positive for the virus in Khulna Medical College PCR lab in the last 24 hours. According to the new numbers, the detection rate stands at 49.57%.
As many as 36,615 patients have recovered so far across the division.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the surge in cases and deaths, local administration imposed stricter restrictions on public movement in Khulna, Satkhira, Narail, Kushtia, and Bagerhat districts.
The bordering division had detected its first Covid-19 case in Chuadanga district on March 19 last year.
