Two students of Quantum Cosmo School and College in Lama of Bandarban drowned while playing in front of the school on Monday.
Meanwhile, two siblings in the Faokal Purbapara area of Gazipur drowned in a pond on Monday afternoon.
In Bandarban, Mohammad Abdul Kader Jilani, 12, from Chapainawabganj, and Shreyo Mostafiz, 12, from Thakurgaon, were students of class six at the residential school.
The two went to the field in front of the school to play when it was raining around noon. At one point they fell into a pipe, used to collect water from the hilly streams.
The school authorities rescued them after being informed by their classmates and took them to a doctor who declared them dead, according to police and local sources.
Shreyo’s uncle journalist Zakir Mostafiz Milu blamed the school authorities for the deaths.
“I want to know why they allowed the children to go out in bad weather. I demand harsh punishment for the people concerned for this negligence,” he told Dhaka Tribune.
Lama police Officer-in-Charge Md Alamgir said that they had recovered the bodies and sent them to Bandarban Sadar hospital for autopsy. “We will take legal steps after conducting the autopsy.”
In Gazipur, the deceased are Foysal Ahmed, 5, and Sumaiya Akter, 8. Their father Nurul Islam is a day laborer and their mother works at a local garments factory.
Another child, Toa, 7, daughter of Abdur Razzak, was rescued alive, confirmed Sadar police Inspector Syed Rafiul Karim.
The trio fell in the pond beside their house while playing with other children. People coming to the nearby mosque rescued them, but found the siblings dead.
Toa recovered after primary treatment, police said.
