Police have arrested an imam of a local mosque on charges of raping a fourth-grader in Badalgachi upazila of Naogaon.
Abu Hasan, 42, a resident of the upazila's Uttar Pakuria village, was apprehended on Saturday.
Locals said the imam had been teaching the nine-year-old girl Arabic for the last four months at his house.
Around 7am on Saturday, he raped the child when only the two were in the house. Locals rushed and rescued her after hearing her screams.

Badalgachi police OC Atiqul Islam said the girl's mother later lodged a case against Hasan. "We also produced him before a court that sent him to jail Saturday afternoon."
The girl was also sent to Naogaon General Hospital for medical examination and treatment, he added.
Another held, sent to jail over rape
Police in Rajshahi also arrested another man on Saturday for raping a 12-year-old girl in Mohanpur upazila.
The arrested was identified as Mokbul Hossain, 45, a resident of the upazila's Piarpur village.

On Friday afternoon, when the girl went out of her house, Mokbul took the girl to a betel leaf farm and raped her there, said locals and police.
The girl later disclosed the matter to her family.
Mohanpur police OC Touhidul Islam said the girl was admitted to the One-stop Crisis Centre at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed in this regard on Saturday, he said.
The accused was sent to jail after police produced him before a court, the OC added.
