Three people were killed and four others injured when a rice-laden truck overturned on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Shariful Islam, 45, Mohammad Sajib, 30 and Atiqur Rahman, 27, all of them from Naogaon.
Quoting witnesses, police said the Chittagong-bound truck from Rangpur skidded off the road and overturned, leaving Shariful dead on the spot and six others injured.
The injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced Sajib and Atiqur dead.
Road accidents in Bangladesh
At least 468 people were killed, and 507 others injured in 432 road accidents across the country last month, according to Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, a passenger welfare platform.
The number of deaths in road crashes during the Eid holiday rush increased despite a ban on inter-district bus operations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, two civic bodies disclosed on May 18.
At least 249 people were killed, and 385 others were injured in 207 road crashes from May 6-17, according to a report jointly prepared by the Green Club of Bangladesh and National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways.
