Familial disputes may have led to the murders, suspect locals

Update : 21 May 2021, 10:40 PM

Three members of a family were found dead in their home in the Champatali area of Bandarban’s Lama upazila on Friday.

The deceased are Mazeda Begum, 50, and her children Rafi Akter, 16, and 10-month-old Nuri. Mazeda’s husband Nur Mohammad is an expatriate who lives in Kuwait.

Police said they went to recover the bodies after being informed by locals at 8pm.

There were wounds on the bodies and furniture in the house was vandalized. The main door of the house was locked from the outside and locals suspect the three may have been suffocated with pillows.

“Mazeda’s body was recovered [Friday] after her sister left her house on Thursday afternoon,” said Abdul Khalek, Mazeda’s brother-in-law.

Familial disputes could have led to the murders, said locals.

Promising a swift investigation, Assistant Superintendent of Police Rizwanul Islam said the bodies would be sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for autopsies.
