A truck driver’s assistant was killed and the driver injured as the vehicle skidded off the road and crashed into a roadside tree in Rajshahi early Friday morning.
Quoting locals, Mahbub Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Damkura police station, said the accident occurred in Kasba area on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj Highway under Paba upazila around 5:45am.
The deceased was identified as Iman Ali, 35. The wounded driver Faisal Hossain was undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital till filing of this report at 12:15pm.
The OC said the paddy-laden truck heading to Chapainawabganj veered off the road and crashed into a roadside tree as its driver lost control over the steering killing his assistant on the spot.
Informed, police and firefighters rushed to the spot and rescued the driver who was trapped inside the truck.
