A police officer has been arrested after a woman sued him for allegedly raping her while she was under institutional quarantine for Covid-19 in Sadar upazila of Khulna.
The accused Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mokleshur Rahman was sent to jail via a court order soon after the metropolitan police arrested him on Monday.
Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Media Wing Chief) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Shahjahan Sheikh confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
He said the young woman, 22, was sent to a 14-day mandatory quarantine at the Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) in Khulna Sadar, soon after she had returned from India on May 4.
The woman on Monday lodged a written complaint with Sadar police station accusing ASI Mokleshur Rahman of raping her at the quarantine facility on Friday night, he added.
The police official also said that the woman was later moved to KMP’s Victim Support Center.
KMP Deputy Commissioner (South) Anwar Hossain said ASI Mokhlesur Rahman, posted at the Khulna Metropolitan Police Court, was assigned to the PTI quarantine centre on May 1.
