A woman has been slaughtered allegedly by her husband at Siddhirganj in Narayanganj over family dispute, police say.
Police recovered the body of Fatema Begum, 45, lying on the bed with her throat slit with a sharp knife in her rented house early on Friday.
The couple lived in Nimaikashari area of Sanarpar along with their son Milon. The son filed a murder case on Friday.
Police are looking for the husband, Nurul Alam Sobuj, 50, who has been on the run since Thursday night, according to Siddhirganj police chief (OC) Moshiur Rahman.
The body was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for an autopsy.
According to family sources, Sobuj turned hostile towards his wife over minor issues after he suffered a stroke seven years ago. His physical condition improved gradually but he was facing some complications in the recent months. On Thursday, he rebuked his wife for not being able to see a doctor during the lockdown situation.
Milon said that he had gone out for shopping with his friends on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr. “When I returned home around 2:30am, I found the door locked from outside. I broke open the door and found my mother in a pool of blood,” he said.
OC Moshiur said that they were yet to ascertain the reason behind the murder. “We suspect that the husband killed her over family disputes and fled the scene.”
