5 killed in Sylhet road accident

The accident left two other people severely injured

Five people including two children have been killed as a truck hit a CNG-run autorickshaw on Sylhet-Tamabil highway.

The accident happened at the highway's Ferighat area under Jaintiapur upazila in Sylhet around 7am on Sunday.

Confirming the matter, Jaintiapur police station Officer-in-Charge Golam Dastagir said six members of a family were on their way to a funeral when their CNG-run autorickshaw was hit by a Jaflong-bound truck, killing four of them and the driver on the spot.

The deceased are -- Sadia Begum, 35, her five-month old baby Sahadat Hossan, daughter Sabia Begum, 7, her sister-in-law Habibunnesa, 33, from Jaintiapur's Rupcheng village; and the CNG-run autorickshaw driver Hossain Ahmed, 35, of the upazila's Pakhibil village.

Meanwhile, deceased Sadia’s brother-in-law Md Jakaria, 50, and his wife Hasina Beguma, 40, got severely injured in the accident and were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
