Police have arrested two men on charges of gang-raping their female co-worker inside a rice mill in Bagerhat.
The incident occurred in the district’s Gotapara village on Tuesday.
The suspects, identified as Alamgir Hossian Ano, 45, and Shovon Mallick, 21, were arrested on Wednesday following a case filed by the survivor herself.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday, Bagerhat Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Azizul Islam said: “The survivor works as a deed writer. Alamgir, under whom she works, on Tuesday evening took the woman to his village. After going there, the woman got acquainted with three more persons.
“At one point, Alamgir and the three others gang-raped the survivor inside a local rice mill.”
“When the woman came to our police station on Wednesday and lodged a complaint about the incident, we conducted raids and arrested Alamgir and Shovon. They are also deed writers.
“The case has been filed against four named accused under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. A medical examination of the rape survivor was completed at Bagerhat Sadar Hospital on Thursday afternoon,” he added.
