Specialized teams of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police have inspected the sites in Brahmanbaria where Hefazat-e-Islam activists ran riot during their general strike.
The CID Brahmanbaria district team, Comilla crime scene team and Dhaka forensic team collected evidence from 38 spots on Monday and Tuesday, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.
Md Shahriar Rahman, superintendent of Brahmanbaria police, said: “The evidence collected from the spots will be examined with the permission of the court. We will check whether objects have been burnt with petrol or something else.”
The probe report would later be given to the investigating officer to assist him in the case, the police official added.
Hefazat-e-Islam activists went on a rampage in Brahmanbaria during Sunday’s hartal, leaving several government and private establishments wrecked in its wake, said the media release.

Over 8,000 people have been sued in connection with the attacks, vandalism and arson during the protests of Hefazat-e-Islam between Friday and Sunday in the district. Seven cases have been filed with two police stations in this regard.
Meanwhile, 14 Hefazat men – 10 in Brahmanbaria and four in Chittagong – have died in clashes with law enforcement personnel since Friday.
