The remand plea for Chittagong Metropolitan BNP Convener Dr Shahadat Hossain and Mahanagar Mahila Dal President Monowara Begum Moni and four other women leaders have been rejected by court. However, they will be questioned at the jailgate for one day, said the court.
The other four Mahila Dal leaders are Ankhi Sultana, 42, Dewan Mahmuda Akter Lita, 35, Rina Begum, 40, and Fatima Kajal, 35.
Also, the court granted two days remand for 11 BNP leaders and activists arrested in clashes with the police.
They are - Maruful Haque, 40, Md Firoz, 34, Tareq Aziz, 24, Abu Bakkar Siddique, 35, Saeed Tanzim Mahmud, 20, Abdur Rahim Prakash Minar Rahim, 22, Ali Akbar Hossain, 19, Liton, 22, Haider Hossain, 41, Shakib Hossain, 19, and King Motaleb, 42.
Additional Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohiuddin Murad issued the orders after a hearing on Wednesday.
On Monday afternoon, as part of a central program, a rally was held in front of the party office at Nasimon Bhaban in Chittagong. Stones were hurled at the police, which resulted in a back and forth between police and BNP leaders.
Chittagong City Police Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed said, a plea was made for a 10-day remand of Dr Shahadat on extortion and kidnapping charges. After the hearing, the court denied the remand.
Besides, a seven-day remand plea was made for 16 accused BNP leaders in the case filed in connection with the clash. After the hearing, the court granted two days remand for 11 male accused and denied remand for five female accused, allowing questioning at the jailgate.
He also said that based on an appeal Dr Shahadat was granted division. And all the accused were sent to jail.
