A female police officer has filed a complaint to the commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) against two other officers over implicating her husband in a false case, levelling him an activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Inspector Hosne Ara Begum, who is now attached to the Bangladesh Police Academy in Rajshahi, made the complaint on Wednesday against Boalia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nibaran Chandra Barman and Damkumra police station OC Mahbub Alam.
Mahbub was the former husband of Hosne Ara, who mainly works in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dhaka. They got a divorce in 2018.
Principal of the police academy Khandker Golam Faruq, however, recommended taking action after proper investigation into the complaint.
Complaint of the female police officer
Hosne Ara, in her complaint, said she and Inspector Mahbub got married in 2013 and being abused physically and mentally, she divorced him in 2018.
Since then, Mahbub has been disturbing her in various ways.
Meanwhile, the female police officer got married with Mamun Hossain, a resident of Rajshahi city. He is a journalist by profession.
Mamun works in a local daily named "Rajshahir Sangbad," our correspondent reports.
According to the complaint, "When OC Nibaran Chandra Barman joined his workplace in Rajshahi, we were introduced and at one stage I [Hosne Ara] shared with him the matters related to the divorce and remarriage. From then on, Nibaran started disturbing me by making flirtatious banter mixed with personal remarks. For which, I tried to avoid him pretending not to understand the remarks."
She said Inspector Nibaran used to call her from time to time to talk about Mahbub, who was also working in the same police station as an inspector of investigation.
Nibaran said:"Will you [Hosne Ara] be able to manage the domestic affairs by marrying another man in the same city? You will be in danger."
Besides, Mahbub also threatened her husband bringing him at Motihar police station. "You cannot be better off by marrying Hosne Ara. Do not make enmity with me [Mahbub] by staying with her."
Arrest and case
On March 16, Boalia police detained her husband from his house around 2:20am.
Hosne Ara said she tried to contact OC Nibaran and Inspector (Investigation) Latif multiple times for knowing the reason behind the apprehension.
"But, it is a matter of regret that they did not receive my phone calls though I am also a member of the police."
In the morning, the female police officer went to the Boalia police station and wanted to meet her husband, the duty officer barred her as per the instruction from OC Nibaran.
Around 8:30am, Nibaran entered the police station and told Hosne Ara:"Now you have come to me finally."
He said that her husband is involved with Shibir which she denied.
The OC said her husband would be released if the police commissioner ordered so.
Nibaran left the police station while the female police officer waited there until he returned in the afternoon.
When asked, Nibaran said: "Not the commissioner, what I say is final in the city. A case will be filed against your husband [Mamun]."
Then he gave Hosne Ara permission to meet Mamun. She found torture marks on his face and hand.
Police filed a case against Mamun under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Hosne Ara later met him in the prison where Mamun said Boalia police station Sub-Inspector Matin and others tortured him physically.
Matin said: "Mahbub sir will ruin your [Mamun] life as you married his[former] wife."
In her complaint, Hosne Ara said her husband has been implicated in a false case as OC Nibaran could not fulfill his personal dirty intentions with her while OC Mahbub intended to destroy her life out of vengeance.
She, however, pleaded to take legal actions against the duo and others after proper investigation.
When contacted, OC Mahbub claimed Hosne Ara is making false allegations against him.
"After divorce, I had no contact with her [Hosne Ara]."
OC Nibaran said: "I did not have any indecent talks with her. Her husband was arrested on specific allegations. Now, she is making false complaints only to save her husband."
RMP spokesperson Golam Ruhul Quddus could not make any comment over the matter immediately.
