A college teacher was arrested from a hospital in Sirajganj on Friday night for allegedly raping his student whom he tutored.
The accused is Abu Sayeed Mollah (38), from Sirajganj's Tarash upazila and teacher of a local college.
Police started an investigation after the father of the victim, a member of an ethnic minority group, filed a case against the teacher on Friday for raping her daughter, said Officer-in-charge (OC) of Tarash Police Station Fazle Ashiq.
Sayeed went to her house for tuition at 9pm on Thursday and raped her, finding her alone at the house.
Hearing her scream, local people rushed in and beat up Sayeed.
He was then admitted to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital for his injuries. Later police arrested him from the hospital.
