A female Royal Bengal Tiger has been found dead adjacent to the Sundarbans mangrove forest in Bagerhat.
The endangered animal was recovered from the Bhola River char under the Sarankhola Range of the Sundarbans’ East Forest Department around 8pm on Friday.
The tigress is 7ft-long and approximately 15 years old, confirmed East Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Sundarbans Belayet Hossain.
He said: “Forest rangers spotted a dead tiger at Dhunchebaria Char during their regular patrols. They later recovered it and took it to the range office. Its body bore signs of rotting and so it is believed that it died 2-3 days ago.”
Samples from the deceased animal would be sent to the forensic lab in Dhaka to find out the exact cause of its death, he added.
