Update : 16 Mar 2021, 05:10 PM

A training aircraft on Tuesday crashed into a potato field in Rajshahi during an emergency landing.

Bangladesh Flying Academy's Cessna 152 training aircraft crashed in Lalpur village of Taland union, Rajshahi at around 2:30pm.

Dilara Khatun, manager of Hazrat Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi, said the aircraft crashed and overturned, due to a sudden mechanical fault.

Pilot Captain Mahfuzur Rahman, Rajshahi coach of Bangladesh Flying Club, and trainee Cadet Nahid Ershad were slightly injured during the accident. However, they got out of the plane safely, she added.

Dilara also said a committee will be formed to investigate the accident.

Meanwhile, after the accident, a curious crowd gathered around. However, the police cordoned off the accident site to control the situation.

Rajshahi police Assistant Superintendent  (Tanore-Godagari Circle) Abdur Razzak said upon receiving the news, firefighters and police rushed to the spot.

“The injured two were rescued and taken to the local health centre for initial treatment. They are safe now,” he added.

Earlier on January 9, a training plane of Bangladesh Flying Club crashed while landing at Rajshahi Airport as the wheel of the plane broke. However, no casualties were reported.

In 2015, another plane from this company had the same accident at Rajshahi airport leaving two female trainees dead.
