Chandpur panel mayor injured in train stoning incident

An unidentified teenager pelted stones at the moving train which got in through the window and hit her on her face and chest, say police sources

Farida Ilias, panel mayor of Chandpur municipality, was seriously injured as she was hit by stones pelted at her on a moving train.

The incident took place on her way back to Chandpur from Chittagong between Meher and Hajiganj areas around 9pm on Friday.

Farida was initially taken to Chandpur Government General Hospital before she was admitted at Premier Hospital on Haji Mohsin Road in Chandpur district town.

According to Government Railway Police (GRP) sources, Farida left Laksam Nangal Court for Chandpur on the Meghna Express train Friday night. On the way back, between Meher and Hajiganj, an unidentified teenager pelted stones at the moving train which got in through the window and hit her on her face and chest.

Chandpur Railway (GRP) Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Murad Ullah Bahar said: “I came to know about the incident from the police officer on duty on the train.”

The OC further said that a case will soon be filed at Chandpur Railway police station in this regard. “The higher authorities have been informed about the matter. Drives will be launched on the Chandpur-Laksam railway tracks from Saturday.”
