Lorry-microbus collision kills two musicians in Chittagong

Four others have been injured

Two musicians have been killed while four others injured in a head-on collision between a lorry and a microbus in Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong.

The accident took place in the Sonapahar area in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased are identified as Partha Pratim Guha, 50, and Hanif Ahmed, 41.

Mirsarai Fire Service Station Officer Jasim Uddin said a Dhaka-bound lorry collided with the Chittagong-bound microbus that was carrying  a group of musicians around 5:30am.

The impact of the crash left Partha dead on the spot and five others injured, he added.

The injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

Assistant Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukder of CMCH police outpost said Hanif was declared dead by the on-duty doctor upon arrival.

In 2020, at least 6,686 people lost their lives and 8,600 were injured in a total of 4,891 road accidents across the country, according to Bangladesh Passengers' Welfare Association.
