A pregnant woman has died after her drunk father-in-law set fire to her house in Alokdia Char area under Shivalaya upazila of Manikganj.
According to police and locals, Liba Khatun, 27, was burnt to death after her father-in-law Md Julhas, a suspected robber, in an intoxicated state set fire to her tin-shed house around 3am on Thursday.
Due to the presence of fuel oil, the fire quickly spread throughout the house killing the pregnant woman.
Liba’s husband Solaiman works as an excavator operator in Rajshahi. They have three children together.
Meanwhile, her brother-in-law Billal Hossain also sustained severe burn injuries. He was later sent to a hospital in Pabna for treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shivalaya police station Firoz Kabir said: “A team has been sent to the spot for investigation. Necessary steps will be taken after the investigation is completed.”
