The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has submitted a charge sheet against five people, including Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raihanul Islam, in a case filed for gang-raping a ninth grader in Rangpur.
PBI Inspector Saiful Islam, the investigating officer of the case, placed the charge sheet before the Rangpur Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday morning while Assistant Commissioner of Police (prosecution) Arifuzzaman received it.
PBI high officials, including its Superintendent of Police Jakir Hossain, were present at the moment.
Four other charge-sheeted accused are -- Sumaiya Akhter Meghla and Shompa, both residents of Kedarar Pool area under Haragachh police station in the city, and Raihan's friends Abul Kalam Azad and Babul Hossain, of Lalmonirhat.

On the court premises, Jakir Hossain told the reporters that ASI Raihan of the Detective Branch of Rangpur Metropolitan Police raped the girl in disguise of a romantic relationship.
The ASI took her to Meghla's house located in the Kedarar Pool area on October 18 last year and violated her with the assistance of Meghla.
Later, Kalam and Babul also raped the girl at the house the next day.

The incident came to light when she fell ill following her gang rape. She was admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
The rape-survivor's father filed a case against Raihan, Meghl,a and unnamed others with Haragachh police station on October 26.
The case was later transferred to the PBI, which arrested Meghla and her associate Shompa in Rangpur.

As the name of ASI Raihan was mentioned in a statement given by the girl to a court, the law enforcers arrested the policeman.
"PBI investigated the case for the last four months. After getting the medical and DNA test reports, the law enforcement agency submitted the charge sheet against the five accused," the Rangpur PBI chief said.
He said all the accused are now behind bars.
"We believe the submission of the charge sheet will give a message to people that no one is spared after committing crimes, even if he is a member of the police."
He hopes that the accused would be served exemplary punishment by the court after the trial.
