He also became the topic of discussion in October 2020 when he posted a picture with an expensive pistol on Facebook

Bogra-7 (Gabtali-Shajahanpur) independent MP Rezaul Karim Bablu also known as Shawkat Ali Golbagi Bablu has been summoned to the Anti-Corruption Commission Bogra office on allegations of embezzlement, bribery and illegal accumulation of wealth.

The notice sent to him on Sunday afternoon asked him to appear in person at 10am on March 14.

ACC Assistant Director Aminul Islam confirmed the matter.

Rezaul Karim Bablu alias Shawkat Ali Golbagi was an independent candidate with the truck symbol. With the support of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami voters, Bablu defeated his opponents by a huge margin and became a member of the parliament.

After being elected as an MP, Bablu was accused of concealing information about a case against him. Although this was written about in newspapers no action was taken against him.

In the election affidavit, he showed an annual income of Tk5,000. He used to ride an old motorcycle but within two months of winning the election he bought a car for Tk34 lakh.

MP Bablu claimed that his friends gifted him the car. Locals claim that the owners of the illegally built brick kilns were forced to buy him the car to save the kilns.

He was also accused of embezzling large sums of money in the name of giving jobs to people.

He also became the topic of discussion in October 2020 when he posted a picture with an expensive pistol on Facebook.

MP Bablu could not be reached for comment.

Aminul Islam, assistant director of the ACC's Bogra office, said reports from various sources and newspapers alleged that Bogra-7 MP Rezaul Karim Bablu and his family members were earning money illegally.

“In this context, the preliminary investigation matches the claim. Therefore, MP Bablu has been summoned to the Bogra office of the ACC in Nishindara suburb at 10am on March 14,” he said.

The ACC official further said that when MP Bablu appears at their office, an account of his and his family members' assets will also be sought.
