The Department of Prisons has withdrawn the jailer and deputy jailer of Chittagong Central Jail and suspended two prison guards in connection with the incident of a murder accused inmate going missing from the prison on Saturday.
The withdrawn Jailer is Rafiqul Islam and Deputy Jailer is Md Abu Saddat.
The prison guards were identified as Nazim Uddin and Yunus Mia.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Md Main Uddin Bhuiyan, Additional Inspector General (AIG-Admin) of the Department of Prisons said that the jailer and the deputy jailer were attached to the headquarters and Chittagong DIG office, respectively.

“Besides, two prison guards of Chittagong Central Jail have been suspended for negligence in duty,” he said, adding that the prison authorities constituted a three-member probe body.
Earlier on Saturday, a murder accused prisoner identified as Farhad Hossain Rubel went missing from the Chittagong central jail.
Later, the prison authorities filed a General Diary (GD) with the Kotwali police station.
Currently, Chittagong Central Jail has the capacity of accommodating 1853 inmates.
Jail sources said jail authorities noticed the absence of the prisoner while calculating the number of inmates.
