A case has been filed against Chittagong jail superintendent, jailer, jail physicians and a civilian for allegedly trying to kill a prisoner through torture, including electric shock and poisonous injection.
Jhorna Rani Debnath, wife of incarcerated Rupon Kanti Nath, the alleged victim, has filed the case with the Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Court.
Judge Sheikh Ashfakur Rahman has asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter.
The civilian sued in the case is Ratan Bhattachariya, who used to be Rupam's business partner. He is the one who filed a case with the court against Rupam following a business feud.
Rupam was sent to Chattogram Central Jail on December 15 last year in connection with the case in good health, according to the case filed by his wife.
He is now undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) under the custody of the jail authority, said his lawyer Advocate Bhulon Lal Bhoumik.
According to the case statement, the accused tried to collect Rupom's confessional statement in the jail by torturing him with electric shocks and poisonous injection on February 24-25.
His wife said she filed the complaint after coming to know of the torture while visiting him at the CMCH.
