Narayanganj quadruple murder: 2 sentenced to death, 9 get life term after 13 years

Seven of the convicts were present at the court while four others are still fugitive

A Narayanganj court has sentenced two accused to death after 13 years of the four sensational murders in Fatullah of Narayanganj.

Meanwhile, nine more accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment, which will extend another year if they fail to pay a fine of Tk50,000 each.

Additional Sessions Judge Sabina Yasmin of the second court gave the verdict on Sunday.

The convicts sentenced to death are -- Tajul Islam and Mohi Fitter. Meanwhile, Chan Mia, Dulal Mia, Mojibar, Abdul Mannan, Arif, Jalil, Saiful Islam, Dulal and Shafiqul Islam are the ones who were sentenced to life term imprisonment.

During the hearing, seven of the convicts were present at the court while Jalil, Saiful Islam, Dulal, and Shafiqul Islam are still fugitive.

Narayanganj court police Inspector Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

He said, in September 2008, the convicts murdered four boatmen – Molla Nasir Mia, Mongol, Faisal and Hannan – while robbing a bulkhead named Shahporan. Later, the bulkhead’s owner, Ershad Mia, filed a murder case with Fatullah police station.

“The court has ordered to quickly arrest the fugitives and execute the sentence,” he added.

Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Fazlur Rahman said: “The case was transferred to the court for trial and disposal on April 21, 2009, the judge took the testimony of 16 witnesses including plaintiff Ershad Mia and handed over the verdict to the court today.

 “We are satisfied with the verdict.”
