A police constable has been arrested in a case of raping a teenager in Fulgaji, Feni.

The arrestee has been identified as Constable Touhidul Islam Shaon, and he was arrested in Rangamati on Friday morning.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, the rape survivor testified against the rape accused in the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court.

Fulgaji police station OC Qutub Uddin confirmed the matter.

After receiving a copy of the arrest notice from the court, police launched a search for Touhidul and found him in Rangamati. He was produced in court and was sent to jail.

Plaintiff's lawyer Nurul Abshar Chowdhury Mukul said Touhidul took the girl to a house in Feni on June 1, 2020 on the basis of their previous acquaintance.

There she was drugged with juice and raped several times. When she was regaining consciousness at one stage, Touhid threatened to spread offensive videos and pictures of her on Facebook if she protested.

Later, when the girl became pregnant, the local influential people started to cover up the incident. At one stage, they ousted the rape survivor’s family from society.

According to sources, the girl gave birth to a baby on February 11 this year - eight months and 10 days after the incident.

When her relatives informed Constable Touhidul about the matter, he denied any such incident having taken place and threatened them.

Then on February 23, the teen's mother filed a case against Touhidul, his father Aminul Islam, mother Shanu and a man named Firoz Ahmed Babu.

The court directed Fulgaji police to take immediate action after taking cognizance of the case.
