Police have recovered a cache of locally made weapons from Baurkhol Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Faruk Abbasi’s residence in Comilla’s Meghna upazila.

Police came upon the weapons, including pipe guns, machetes, spears and Chinese axes, during a raid on Saturday.

Police conducted the raid in the UP chairman’s house following a local clash that took place on Friday.

On Friday, UP Chairman Faruk with his followers allegedly carried out an attack on his local political rival Siraj Miah during a family event in Baurkhol.

Siraj Miah’s sister in-law, Nazma Akter, 45, was killed during the attack.

Later, police launched an investigation into the incident and conducted the raid in Faruk’s residence where they found a huge pile of local weapons.

Meghna police station Officer in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Mazid said two cases – one over the murder and another under the Arms Act – were being processed in this connection.

He said UP Chairman Faruk Abbasi had been on the run since the incident. Police have been continuing their drive to arrest him and others involved.
